Urgent Care is becoming increasingly more popular among patients. It typically costs less, takes less time, and provides high quality care. There is no appointment necessary so odds are you will be provided with care sooner than a trip to the ER. Urgent Care falls in the middle between your Primary Care Physician and the Emergency Room. It was created to lessen the burden on hospitals and is now easing the burden for Primary Care Physicians.
Urgent Care provides all the services of a regular doctor’s office and more. Often, an Urgent Care facility will have an X-ray machine on site and can perform a multitude of tests on site. Often when you need care it is after hours, or the available appointment does not work for you. Urgent Care has longer hours, so it is easy to go after work when many Doctors offices are closed. Urgent Care can quickly diagnose a UTI, a sprain, or give you a flu vaccine. Urgent Care is also helpful if you have just moved, in need of care, and have yet to find a new doctor. Urgent care provides personalized care and due to HIPPA all information is shared amongst your in-network health care providers. Furthermore, many of the Practioners in Urgent Care facilities are Nurse Practioners or Physicians Assistants.
Urgent Care typically has shorter wait times than in the ER and the quality of care is more personalized. Due to lower overhead the cost of treatment is also less, especially if your insurance requires for you to pay a percentage of the procedure. Urgent Care can perform tests and get answers quickly without sacrificing quality of care. If it is something outside their purview, they will send you on to the emergency room with much of the preliminary testing complete.
